Tips from GE®

Does your air conditioner have a smell?
There will be a newness type of odor when the air conditioner is first used. This is a plastic smell and should disappear after a few weeks of use.
After a period of time, water in the evaporator drain pan (condensate water) can cause a musty odor to form in the pan after prolonged usage of the air conditioner. This is simply due to the moist condition in the pan and represents nothing unusual.
To eliminate this odor, a household type spray disinfectant may be used. Just spray the product directly onto the evaporator coils (located behind the front grille and filter).
